Entertainment Centre Master Plan (Krefeld, Germany)

Thyssen wishes to undertake the development of an “Entertainment Centre” in Krefeld of approximately 850 000m2 including 5 distinct programmatic entities: Night Entertainment, Futuristic Sports, Futuroscope, Theatre and Music, and Leisure Centre. Organised into five autonomous, highly concentrated, “islands”, they are separated by anpotentially agricultural landscape and a rainwater recuperation lake. These “islands” prevent the different programmatic elements from dissipating into the Ruhr’s surrounding landscape, while offering a concentration, and indeed a number of environmental and economical advantages. The recuperation of the rubble from the excavation of the lakes allows the islands to be raised by 2 meters and the fields to be preserved, thereby offering a unique universe, favourable to the generation of a natural environment within an industrial landscape.
