Within the densely populated moderate income housing district set out by Tony Garnier, the Place du 8 mai 1945 is a sensitive area both environmentally (green lung within the neighbourhood) and socially.
The concept devised for the square (5 hectares) and adjoining spaces was elaborated over a series of lengthy consultations with local associations, stall holders and neighbourhood shopkeepers, while in close co-operation with elected council members and representatives.
The market hall and surrounding urban landscape elements demonstrate an important environmental approach (choice of materials, rain water collection, lawn able to sustain various activities including those relating to the market) |
