The modern city is no longer just a series of independent elements along streets and squares. It is also a superimposition of spaces of varying functions, forming autonomous layers and networks interconnected non-the-less.
So as to densify the district in question, the proposal gathers housing units, services, administrative buildings, cultural institutions and green spaces along the Danube.
In London and Paris, the historical development of the city has involved a similar superimposition of layers following an organic development which evolved responding to the city’s construction requirements. The scheme appropriates this concept of layers and elaborates upon their spatial qualities and potentials.
The project must facilitate, on a human scale, circulation and movement, chance encounters and tranquil strolls. These dynamic spaces would provide the new district with the character of a vital space, attractive to the entire city at all hours.
